Gialos beach is a long and calm beach, which is located on southern side of Lefkada Island, near Athani village. Where is Gialos beach in Lefkada Island, and how to get there
Gialos beach is known as Paralia Gialos or Παραλία Γιαλός on most maps of Lefkada. This coastline is located about 37 kilometers away from the capital, and the nearest village is Athani.

The road which leads to Gialos beach starts also from Athani, where some road signs show the way for travellers. The road conditions from Athani are quite poor, but due to the constructions of recent years the last road sections are new. Some parts of the road were renewed after the earthquake of 2015, when the old road was destroyed, such as the road to Egremni beach.

As long as the road works took place, the road to Gialos beach was closed for some months, but now this place can be accessed by cars again in Lefkada Island. At the end of the road you can find the parking lots of Gialos beach, which primarily can be used for free, even in high season months.

What you should know about Gialos beach before a visit
On the southern coastline of Lefkada Island, Gialos beach is one of the longest beaches with its more than 3 kilometers length. The central parts of Gialos are well organized, where Cactus Kantina and Medousa (Μέδουσα) are waiting for guests. Most of the sunbeds can be rented here, near to the restaurants and beach bars, but slightly away you can use your own parasol if you like.

On the shore of Gialos beach you may have to use water shoes, because large areas of the seabed are filled with rocks and large stones. The sea is quite shallow here at most places, much shallower than at other beaches nearby such as at Egremni beach or at Porto Katsiki beach. If you come here with kids, pay attention for the rocks in the seabed.

Because Gialos beach is usually a calm place on the west coast if Lefkada Island, it is ideal to relax, and to enjoy the pleasant sea temperatures. This beach is quiet and less crowded in most of the time, because it is significantly less popular as Kathisma beach or as Porto Katsiki beach on the western side of the island.
Gialos beach can be an option for relax who spend their holiday in the southern villages of Lefkada, such as in Vasiliki or in Athani.

It can be an important information that daily boat trips and excursions don’t arrive to Gialos beach in Lefkada Island, because the shallow sea is don’t suitable to mooring for boats.

On the west coast Gialos beach lies approx. 4 kilometers away from Athani, which is the nearest settlement from here. There are some great options to stay in exclusive villas and apartments, some of these offer amazing views to the Ionian Sea and to the amazing west coast. Athani is a small village with a few restaurants, situated far away from the seaside tourist resorts, such as Nidri or Agios Nikitas.
