Marantochori Lefkada | Information Guide with Photos

Marantochori is a small agricultural village in the southern side Lefkada, located between Nidri and Vasiliki, 32 kilometers away from the capital. The main road which leads in the east divides Marantochori into two parts. In the area there are some nice beaches of the east coast, because the tiny Afteli beach and Ammoussa beach are just a few kilometers away from here.

What you should know about Marantochori

In Lefkada Marantochori is one of the most important agricultural villages, where olive forests and grapeyards provide a living for the local farmers. The village belongs to the medium sized settlements of the island, where the tourism is not so signifiant, as in the coastal resorts. In the center there can be find a few supermarkets and some apartments for stay.

The most inhabitants of Marantochori are engaged in agriculture, and tourism is less popular here, as in other parts of Lefkada. This area is a specially good sample to see what if there was no tourism on the island. The other villages in this area are quite similar to Marantochori: Kontarena and Evgiros are small settlements, where mostly local farmers live. For the best restaurant of the area you have to drive to Kontarena, where The Old Plane Tree Restaurant (Ο γέρο πλάτανος) is recommended for guests.

The atmospheres of the settlement is very peaceful, you feel like you are somewhere far away from the noise of the world.

What to see

The best sights near Marantochori are the emerald coloured Ammoussa beach about 5 kilometers away and Afteli beach 5.5 kilometers away, which are small, but very picturesque places on the east coast of Lefkada. Other attraction in Marantochori its interesting bell tower made of stone, directly next to a small square, an can be seen from the main road. In the direction of Kontarena the Olive Oil Factory “SKLAVENITIS” and its shop is open for visitors, and show how olive oils are produced.

For sightseeing its worth to visit the charming fishing village of Vasiliki, which is situated about 6 kilometers away from here. In the port of Vasiliki daily boat trips are available to Porto Katsiki beach and Egremni beach on the west coast, or catch a taxi boat to Agiofili beach. In the area you can discover Sivota village 5 kilometers away, where a lot of restaurants await, surrounded by a very picturesque port.
