Agiofili beach informations
The bay has several names in Lefkada Island, such as Aghiofili or Agiofylli can be seen on local maps, but all these names belong to same place. Agiofili beach is a gem of the southern areas, where the bay is characterized by high cliffs, crystal clear waters and lush vegetation on surrounding hills. The seabed is filled mostly by white coloured white pebbles, which is typical on the southern side of Lefkada.
The area of Agiofili beach is slightly organized, where umbrellas and sunbeds were set and can be rented. The coast belong to the smaller attractions with a length of 100 meters, therefore it can be crowded during high season months. From June to September a small cantina is waiting for guests, where cold drinks and snacks are served.
The best lookout to Agiofili is situated on the north side of the bay, where the stairs were built. The top of the stairs is a great photo spot, from where every traveller can take awesome pictures, with panoramic views to the Ionian Sea and the steep cliffs as well.
Sometimes sea temperatures of Agiofili beach feel like a slightly lower than other beaches in Lefkada Island. The main reasons are local sea currents of Ionian Sea, which bring some coolness into the bay, even in the hottest summer months. Average sea temperatures are measured 23 – 26 Celsius from June to September, and due to sea currents there are periods even in June and in September, when temperatures are slightly more pleasant, than in July or in August.
When sea surface is calm and there are no significant waves, Agiofili beach is recommended for snorkeling and diving near Vasiliki village in Lefkada Island, because the waters of the coastline are crystal clear. Rocky sides of the seabed have usually significant marine life, with a lot of fishes and other sea creatures.
The bay faces to the south, without any natural protection of bigger waves. At some days, when the waves are getting higher, and the colours of Ionian Sea turn into extremely blue, swimming is better instead of snorkeling.
In the morning hours this beautiful bay looks peaceful and looks abandoned even in summer, but after first taxi boats arrive from the port of Vasiliki, the coast can be crowded quickly.
The side cliffs of Agiofili are great for jumping into the sea at some places, but you have to pay attention before a jump, because of the bigger rocks in seabed. The sea deepens quite quick, but at two ends of the bay even smaller kids can enjoy bathing with their parents. For sensitive feet we suggest wearing water shoes, due to pebbly shore. Using own beach umbrellas or rent a sunbed is neccessary, because natural shades are rare, the sun shines strongly in the entire bay from late morning.
Agiofili beach is listed in travel guides as one the best beaches on the east coast of Lefkada Island, because of its beauty, but its worth try to avoid bigger crowds, and arrive in the morning hours.
