Ligia (Λυγιά) is a popular seaside village in Lefkada Island, Greece, situated on the east coast, near the capital.

Where to find Ligia in Lefkada Island, location and access of the village
Ligia is located on the northeast coast of Lefkada Island, 4 kilometers away from the capital, and 11 kilometers away from Nidri. The village has fast and easy connection with most villages of the east coast, because the main road connect the seaside settlements to each other.
There is also a bus stop for a local buses, which arrive from the main bus station of Lefkada town. Most travellers meet Ligia when drive trough it, the main road literally cuts into two parts this village. The traffic is significant on the main road, but the other streets are much calmer.
Parking lots in Ligia were constructed mostly next to the main road, where you can stop for free – there are no paid parking lots here.
What to find in Ligia
The houses of Ligia were built next to the sea and on the surrounding hills both, these parts of the village are separated from each other by the main road. On both sides of the road there were built long lines of apartments and studios.
The village is a well prepared for tourists during summer, so you don’t have to drive to Lefkada town to buy something if you don’t want to. Most of the services and shops of Ligia can be find directly next to main road, where several restaurants, coffee bars, supermarkets, bakeries and fuel station are waiting for clients.
The best restaurants of Ligia, which have good reputation and reviews are Taverna Koutouki (Το Κουτούκι), Ta Kanoria (by the sea), Cisore Restaurant, Thalassa Grill House & Pizza, Sto Limani, and Taverna Meltemi.
Near the settlement there are two fuel stations, in the north and in the southern part of the village as well. In the center of the Ligia a small port was constructed for small sized boats, and also a few traditional fishinf restaurants are open. There is no mentionable seaside promenade here, unlike the villages of Nidri or Vasiliki, so the atmospheres of the nights are significantly calmer.
What to see in Ligia, best sights and what to do
One of the best sights of Ligia is a small port with dozens of colourful fishing boats. The port can’t be missed when we drive on the main road, because it is situated directly next to it, and has a few parking lots. This marina is well protected from the waves and from bad weather conditions by a breakwater, but strong winds or significant waves are not typical in Ligia.
In the local port a few boat rental services are offered (without boat driving licence), and can discover the east coastline of Lefkada Island. From Ligia port some abandoned beaches of the Greek mainland, such as Gerakas beach or Vathyavali beach are accessible by small boats as well.
For the best sights in the area of Ligia you have to take a trip into Lefkada town, where a lot of hidden gems can be visited when walking on the picturesque streets. By renting a car or a scooter, or using your own car the picturesque capital and its old streets are just a few minutes driving from here! Ligia is a calm and quiet village with no significant nightlife, but the capital is much bustling.
Other mentionable sights near Ligia are situated in the neighboring village, Kariotes, where you can see some old ruins and stones of the Ancient Lefkas. Another interesting historical sight of the area is literally a shallow marsh, known as Alykes, or the salt pans of Alexandros. The pools of this shallow lagoon were used for salt distillation hundreds of years ago. The small islet, situated in front of the salt pans is Forti (Φόρτι), an old stronghold for soldiers.
From Ligia you can also drive up to the hills of Katouna, which is a small mountain village with panoramic views to the east coastline of Lefkada Island.
Ligia beach
Ligia is a seaside resort of the east coastline of Lefkada Island, so you can swim and snorkel at many places here. The beaches of Ligia are mostly smaller sections, separated by rocks from each other, where the sea is usually calm and shallow. The seabed of Ligia beach is primarily filled by pebbles and stones, so you may have to wear swimming shoes.
You can find at some places a few sunbeds and parasols for rent, but the most local beaches in Ligia are unorganized without any services. Just walk down through the narrow alleys to the sea, and swim in the green coloured waters!
The main parts of Ligia beach are located on the southern side of the port, literally 2 minute walk from there. If you would like try some water fun, find Panos Water Sports & Fun Park in the southern outskirt, in the direction of Nikiana.
The best beaches of the area can be find near the beautiful Lefkada town, where many interesting places are waiting: Agios Ioannis beach and Gira beach are beloved by many travellers and locals. The nearest famous beaches of the west coast are Pefkoulia beach and Kathisma beach, which can be reached in 25-30 minutes by car, from Ligia and lie approx. 15 – 18 kilometers away.
