Where to find Pefkoulia beach in Lefkada Island and how to get there

Pefkoulia beach is situated near Agios Nikitas village (3 km), on the west coast of Lefkada. Distances to other villages are the following: it lies 3 kilometers away from Tsoukalades, 10 kilometers away from the capital, 25 kilometers away from Nidri and 29 kilometers away from Vasiliki. The access of the bay is very easy for cars, it lies next to the main road, which leads on the west coastline.

When you arrive from north direction to Pefkoulia beach, you don’t have to drive on narrow mountain roads or getting stressed by hairpin bends, because the main road is wide, and easy to drive. From the direction of Nidri, Nikiana or Lygia – which are situated on the east coast of Lefkada Island – the best route to Pefkoulia beach is driving north to Lefkada town, from where the road is getting wide and safe.

Near Pefkoulia beach there can be seen a few road signs of the local bar, known as DECK beachside cafe, which is the only coffee bar within few kilometers. For parking at Pefkoulia beach visitors have two options. DECK bar has a small parking lot at the entrance, which can be used for free, or drivers can park directly next to main road, which has wider parts here.

There are no public buses or boat trips, the bay can only be accessed directly by car, scooter or quad.

Located in front of a green hill, Pefkoulia beach is famous for its natural beauty and large dimensions in Lefkada Island. The bay has secluded and well organized parts as well, serving most people’s needs. The main entrance of Pefkoulia beach is situated at DECK bar, a short path with some stairs lead down to the sea.

The central area of Pefkoulia beach belong to DECK bar, where long lines of sunbeds provide some comfort for visitors. Calmer and secluded places are situated slightly further away from the crowds, just walk to the south or to the north, which are much less crowded areas.

The seabed has both shallow and slightly deeper parts, depending on actual position of the bay. The long coastline of Pefkoulia beach is filled by coarse sand, and smaller pebbles at most places – beach sandals are not neccessary for walking into the waters.

From June to August Pefkoulia beach is a very popular place in Lefkada Island, because of its easy access, bar services and nice scenery. Therefore some parts of the shore look sometimes overcrowded from the lookouts, but due to its spacious dimensions there can be find always places to sunbathe and to swim on both sides of the bay.

An important information for families before they visit Pefkoulia beach, from late morning there are no such places with natural shades – only DECK bar provide some shade by tamarisk trees. A few cliffs and rocks of the southern and northern areas provide some natural shades, but these places are getting filled by the first visitors.

The west coast of Lefkada Island, where Pefkoulia beach is located, is much exposed to bigger waves and sea currents. At most of the time the waters are calm and crystal clear without significant waves, but there are a few periods in a month, when the waves are getting much stronger.

Bigger waves change the character of this bay: the colours of the Ionian Sea turn into incredible blues, which are really amazing to see. The best parts of Pefkoulia beach to enjoy the stronger waves are the central areas, near DECK beach bar. There can be find slightly less stones under sea surface, which are hidden by the extraordinary ‘Lefkada blue’ coloured waters.

The blue waves of the west coast belong to top features of Lefkada Island, but when they arrive, always pay attention due their strength. Sea temperatures of Pefkoulia beach are mostly pleasant from June to mid September, with average temperatures between 23 – 26 Celsius. Local sea temperatures in the bay are influenced highly by local sea currents, strength of the waves and the actual weather conditions.

When the sea is calm, the crystal clear waters are waiting for snorkeling, especially kids love this activity.

The northernmost part of Pefkoulia beach, which is further away from the central areas and from restaurant, is often visited by naturists. This place in the north is one of the recommended nudist beach sections in Lefkada Island.

DECK bar behind Pefkoulia beach is a restaurant, which offers wide range of cold drinks, snacks and hot meals, most of the sunbeds can be rented here. The restaurant has also a free parking lot at the entrance, but it is quite small, and fills up quickly in the morning hours. After local parking lots are getting filled, next to the road there can be find many other places for cars and scooters.
