Agios Nikitas is located on the west coast of Lefkada Island, approx. 18 kilometers away from the capital, and 44 kilometers away from Nidri. The traditional stonehouses of the village were built in fertile valley, which has lush vegetation: the entire area is filled by old olive trees, delicious grapes, cypresses, pines and beautiful flowers.
The access of Agios Nikitas is very easy in Lefkada Island, because the main road of the west coast connect the village with other settlements nearby, such as Lefkada town, Tsoukalades or Kalamitsi. The route from the north is simple and easy, lacks narrow sections. From the direction of Kalamitsi (from south) there are some narrower sections, especially when we drive through the center of Kalamitsi village.
The main road leads through the outskirts, and bypasses the central areas.
How to park in Agios Nikitas, finding local parking options for cars
Most parking lots of Agios Nikitas were constructed next to the main road, which can be used for free. During summer periods the only drawback of Agios Nikitas is the parking situation, because near the center the parking lots getting filled during the days. This tiny village is extremely popular place in Lefkada Island for many travellers, and parking with cars can be difficult during some high season days, especially on weekends.
When you are lucky, you can catch a free parking site near to the entrance of the village, or you have keep to drive further for looking empty spaces.
Important: always keep in mind the local traffic rules, which means avoid parking at the entrances of the apartments, and there are some sections on the main road, where parking is now allowed.
Public buses
Agios Nikitas can be reached by local bus services as well, public buses run daily from the bus stop of Lefkada town, according to actual schedules of KTEL. Important to know daily boat trips from the port of Vasiliki and from Nidri are not sail here, beause of the larger distances.

These are mostly tiny, charming alleys, which lead on the hills, between the traditional stonehouses.
When we discover the regions of Lefkada Island, we can notice that Agios Nikitas is a very special settlement, because this village is the only one, which has direct sea exit to the west coast. Before the presence of mass tourism this place was known as a small fishing settlement, where the locals were primarily engaged to agriculture.
Nowadays the hills of this area are filled by olive trees and grapes even now, because a few locals follow the traditional methods, and produce wines and olive oils in excellent quality.
During summer months Agios Nikitas is the most bustling settlement on the west coast of Lefkada Island, serving thousands of travellers. On its streets traditional taverns, coffee bars, supermarkets, souvenir stores, and bakeries are open for guests, most of these are situated within walking distance from the pedestrian road.
On the streets there are car rental agencies, ATM, and of course a bus stop. The bus stop in Agios Nikitas is located on the main road, near the entrance of the village. The best local apartments, hotels and studios were built not just in the village center, but on the surrounding hills as well, some of these offer sea views from their rooms for guests.
Most of the buildings of Agios Nikitas were built of stone, primarily in traditional Greek style, which guarantee charming street views and nice photos for a holiday.

These taverns are recommended often by locals and travellers both, and usually get great reviews from guests. The local supermarkets of the main street are maybe much smaller in their size than the biggest supermarkets of Lefkada town, but these shops keep the most important things for customers, such as beach equipments, snacks, cold drinks, housewares, etc.

Best sights and attractions in Agios Nikitas: what to see near the village
Firstly, the best sights of Agios Nikitas are the picturesque streets and narrow alleys, which give the charm of a traditional Greek village. The tiny stone church of the village can be visited only a few steps away from the beach, from where its bell tower can be seen well. Maps mention this place often as Agos Nikitas Old Church, or Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Νικήτα in Greek language.
Other mentionable sights in Agios Nikitas are mostly natural attractions: its small beach in the north, the beauty of the surrounding hills and the hiking trails. Our favourite attraction in this region is Mylos beach, which is situated literally next to the village.
Exploring the narrow alleys and streets are highly recommended for a sightseeing, because altough the main street is picturesque as well, but in the tiny alleys there are hidden gems for taking photos.
Daily boat trips are not offered from here because of a lack of a port, but small taxi boats connect the village to the neighboring Mylos beach.

The village has its tiny own beach, which a small, but popular place on the north side. Agios Nikitas beach can be accessed from the direction of pedestrian road, where most coffee bars and restaurants are located. This small bay offer coarse sand and turquoise coloured waters for travellers, which can be recommended for kids and smaller children as well.
The seabed is quite shallow at many places, offering pleasant sea temperatures. The average sea temperatures of Agios Nikitas beach are 23 – 24 Celsius in June, 25 – 26 Celsius in July, 25 – 27 Celsius in August and 23 – 26 Celsius in September, which always depend on actual weather conditions and sea currents.
From the sandy shore we can clearly see one of the gems of the west coastline, known as Pefkoulia beach, its green hills are typical.
Many travellers like the location of Agios Nikitas very much, because some of the best beaches in Lefkada Island can be find within a few kilometers from here. The nearest famous bay is called Mylos beach, which can be accessed on foot from the center of the village (walk takes about 25-30′), or by taxi boat, directly from Agios Nikitas beach.
