Most of local beaches have coarse sandy seabeds, and most people don’t need water shoes. But there can be explored some bays (such as Mikros Gialos, Porto Katsiki), which have bigger pebbles at most places, and some people (and kids) who have sensitive soles, water shoes are great.

Why are the water colours so blue in Lefkada Island?

Primarily due to the limestone pebbles: the waves wash the white coloured, porous limestone coarse sand and pebbles into the water, which colors the sea. These unique colours can be seen near the shore.

Is the island safe?

Yes, Lefkada is considered as a safe place in Greece. In the villages the locals are mostly friendly Greek people, and the public safety is good. Altough at the most crowded places, such as the famous beaches during high season month, you have to take care of values.

The prices are slightly higher than in the Greek mainland (up to 15-20%), because almost all the goods (fuel, food, etc) must be transported here from the mainland.
