Excursion boats, such Nidri Star, Eptanisos or Nikolaos Boat depart in the morning hours, and usually visit not just this beautiful gem on the west coast, but also other amazing beaches, such as Egremni beach. Meet the magical colours and white pebbles of the beach

The seabed of Porto Katsiki beach is characterized primarily by white coarse sand and pebbles, the sea deepens quite quickly. These natural conditions are similar to other beaches, which are located on the west coast of Lefkada Island, especially on the southern coastline.

Behind the narrow shore huge steep cliffs rise into the sky, which are the trademarks of Lefkada and Porto Katsiki beach both. It’s very important to know that in recent years the coast was not organized by sunbeds and parasols, so before a visit don’t forget about your umbrella.

Sunbeds at the beach in the shade of cliffs

Due to the western location of the bay it belongs to the local beaches, which are highly exposed to sea currents and waves. The bigger waves of the Ionian Sea transform the sea colours of Porto Katsiki beach into incredible blue, with millions shades of blue colours.

When significant waves rise high in the bay at few times in a month, swimming is recommended only for experienced persons. Always respect the strength of the waves and keep your distance from the sea. Most of the time swimming is safe here, because the sea surface is often calm without significant waves, but the colours of the sea are slightly less blue.

White coast and blue waves of Porto Katsiki beach

Very important, the bay is shaded until 10:00 (due to its western location), and the sun is getting shine most parts of the shore from this time. There are some places next to the cliffs, which offer shaded areas until 12:00, but after that the sun will shine on the entire part of Porto Katsiki beach. Natural shade places are very rare here in the afternoons.

Sea temperatures and best periods for swimming

Sea temperatures of Porto Katsiki beach mainly depend on actual weather conditions and sea the currents, but the average sea temperatures rise up to 23 – 27 Celsius here during summer months. The warmest waters are in July and in August, only a few currents bring some cooler waters for a few days.

For snorkeling and diving Porto Katsiki beach is not the best place in Lefkada Island in our opinion, the east coastline is much more recommended for this activity, because the seabed is quite abandoned according to our experience. For those who want snorkel, the best parts are at the sea caves, near the stairs.

What you need to know about the peninsula of Porto Katsiki beach

On the north side of the bay we can visit the small peninsula if Porto Katsiki, which offered the best panoramic views to the entire bay several years ago. Unfortunately this peninsula lost its access, because the narrow staircase was destroyed by an earthquake in 2015, and the path became dangerous.

Snorkeling at sea caves, under the peninsula of Porto Katsiki beach

In 2026 the stairs are mostly ruined, and the peninsula is not recommended for a visit due safety reasons. But from the parking lot next to the peninsula great panoramic views can be taken.

Where to eat and drink

On the shore there are no restaurants or bars, the nearest kiosks are waiting guests at top of the stairs, between the stairs and the parking lots. During high season there are takeaway services from the nearest restaurants, such as Bilvi.

The cheapest solutions are always to bring some food and mineral water or other refreshments, but this place is much more organized than Egremni beach.

Best times for a visit in 2026

The bay is extremely popular travel destination in Lefkada Island, visited by hundreds of tourists every day. Our advice is arrive early to Porto Katsiki, until 10:30, there will be many empty places on the shore, and parking lots are not filled yet. After 11:30-12:00 the parking lots are almost always full from July to middle of September.

The hottest hours are usually from 11:00 to 16:00, it’s highly recommended to use sunblocks – the white cliffs increase the heat in the bay more significantly. After 17:00 temperatures slowly cools down, and from this time the bay is getting emptier. The less crowded periods here are always until 11:00, and after 17:00 in our experiences since 20 years. Sunsets are magical here, but just a few visitors wait until the sun goes down.
