Agios Nikitas beach (Παραλία Άγιος Νικήτας) is tiny, emerald coloured bay of the picturesque village, located on the west coast of Lefkada Island. This coastal resort is the only village in the region, which has direct sea exit for swimming and for snorkeling.

This coast lacks long lines of sunbeds because of its tiny size, but several restaurants and coffee bars are situated just a minute walk from here. The location of Agios Nikitas beach is quite picturesque, because it can be find on the north side of the village, literelly at the end of pedestrian road.

Where to find Agios Nikitas beach in Lefkada Island, and how to get there

Agios Nikitas beach lies on the northwest coast of Lefkada Island, approx. 12 kilometers away from Lefkada town, 28 kilometers away from Nidri and 17 kilometers away from Vasiliki. The main road, which runs on the west side of the island, connect the village well to the most important areas, especially to the capital. The village can be accessed by cars and by scooters from every corner of the island, while local buses depart from the bus station of Lefkada town.

The parking lots of Agios Nikitas (Άγιος Νικήτας) were built outside the village center, directly next to the main road. The inner streets of the settlement were designed primarily for pedestrian traffic, most of these are narrow and winding alleys, except the central pedestrian street. Agios Nikitas beach is situated at the end of pedestrian road, and leads directly the sea.

The beach of Agios Nikitas is medium sized bay, surrounded by the houses of the village. The seabed is quite shallow here, filled primarily with coarse sand, small pebbles and some rocks. The Ionian Sea is calm here often, so the the bay is recommended for families with smaller children. Because of the narrow coastline, parasols and sunbeds for rent are not typical even during high season months, most of the visitors use their own beach umberellas and equipments.

The area is very popular on the west coast of Lefkada Island, with hundreds of visitors every day from June until September, therefore Agios Nikitas beach can be crowded at many times – especially at the weekends of July and August. Sea temperatures are usually pleasant with temperatures between 24 – 27 Celsius in summer months, but due to its western location, local sea currents may change this for short periods.

On the west side of Agios Nikitas beach there is a narrow walking route which leads you to north cliffs, and the bay looks different, characterized by large stones and rocks mostly. The coast is much more narrow there, and that area is filled by more rocks than sand.

The east side of the beach (in the direction of Pefkoulia beach) is more exciting, because large rocks form some tiny, secluded bays. These hidden gems are beloved by local nudists / naturists especially, and if you would like to spend a few hours here, it’s worth to arrive earlier.

Behind Agios Nikitas beach, just a minute walk away, large variety of restaurants and coffee bars offer for visitors cold drinks and hot meals. Best known taverns, which are recommended by travellers are On The Rock cafe – bar, Azure bar, Sapfo restaurant (Σαπφώ), Captain’s Corner, Taverna Portoni (Πορτόνι) and Lefteris taverna (Λευτέρης).

Agios Nikitas beach is medium protected from the biggest waves of the west coast, but due geographical reasons not as much as the east coastline of Lefkada. A lifeguard tower was constructed for the safety of swimmers, used during summer periods. The lifesaver sets the green, yellow and red flags of the lifeguard tower, depending on actual sea conditions. In case of red flag swimming is prohibited, because of significant waves or bad weather conditions.

The best parts for snorkeling are the areas at the north and east ends, where the Ionian Sea is unharmed and the waters are crystal clear. Sea creatures are usually more significant here, slightly further away from crowded central areas.

What to see near Agios Nikitas beach

The small church of Agios Nikitas (Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Νικήτα) is a tiny local attraction near the beach, from where its bell tower can be seen well. The most interesting parts of the village are the narrow alleys, which lead between the old stonehouses, and shaded often by grapes, olive trees and lush flowers.

In the area there are 3 amazing beaches, which are worth to visit. The long and spacious Pefkoulia beach is situted approx 3 kilometers away, Mylos beach lies literally next to Agios Nikitas, while Kathisma beach can be reached by 3 kilometers driving from here.

Mylos beach can be reached by two options, on a hiking trail or by local taxi boats. The footpath to Mylos starts from the pedestrian road, and takes approx. 700 meters. A hike to Mylos is slightly harder, because travellers have to climb on a narrow trail, through a hill. Hiking can be exhausting during hot summer days, so it is recommended to start the walk in the morning hours.

Reaching Mylos beach by boat from Agios Nikitas is much easier, because taxi boats depart every hour. It’s worth to know local water taxis depart only to Mylos beach, when the waves of the west coast are not significant. The small boats depart from the east side of Agios Nikitas beach, the prices of the short trip are just a few Euros in one direction, and must be payed on the boat.

The area of Agios Nikitas beach is a very popular tourist destination, because only this village has a direct sea exit on the west coast of Lefkada Island. There are natural wonders in every direction from here, such as Mylos beach, Pefkoulia beach or Kathisma beach.

Nightlife is not so significant here, but local restaurants and bars are open at nights as well, serving every travellers needs. Some apartments and studios were built hills, and have panoramic views to the mountains and to the Ionian Sea.
