Where to find Tsoukalades in Lefkada Island

Tsoukalades is situated in the northwest part of Lefkada Island, approx. 7 kilometers from the capital and 7 kilometers from Agios Nikitas. Both villages are quite near, and make the access of Tsoukalades super fast and very easy. The houses of the settlement were built on the north hills, but there are no such steep mountains or extreme steep roads, which are typical at some other places.

The main road, which leads on the west coast and connect Tsoukalades to the other villages, is quite wide, and not difficult to drive. Most of the parking lots were constructed next to the main road, and the parking is free. In the old village of Tsoukalades (the north part of the settlement) there can be find a dedicated, free parking lot as well.

What to find in Tsoukalades

The area of Tsoukalades is much less mountainous, compared to some other villages of Lefkada Island, such as Kalamitsi or Athani. The main road leads through the central areas, where most of the local restaurants, supermarkets and apartments were built – most of these have easy access.

The area near the main road is primarily dedicated for touristic services, but on the north side of the street Tsoukalades has an old village, where the locals live away from traffic, in less noisy places.

Tsoukalades is an important village of Lefkada Island for travellers, and offer a lot of useful services, which can be important on summer holidays. Travellers can find here bakery with fresh pastries and snacks, coffee bars, restaurants, supermarkets, ATM and pharmacy. For free parking in the village just pull over to the side of the road – there are no paid parking lots, such as in Nidri.

According to guests the best restaurants in Tsoukalades are Psaropoula tavern with its nice garden on the main road and Ταβερνα Κάμπος, situated slighty further away. For snacks, pastries and for a morning coffee we recommend Irene’s Bakery And Coffee Shop, where the staff is friendly, and homemade desserts are delicious in our opinion.

Due geographical conditions the village has no direct sea exit, but the magical west coast of Lefkada Island is situated just a few kilometers away, and can be reached very quick by cars. The streets of Tsoukalades are surrounded by olive groves and pine forests, so if you like lush vegetation, the area of this village is definitely green.

Best sights and attractions in Tsoukalades

The best feature of the area is its nearness to several great beaches of Lefkada Island, and some local apartments and studios, which are offered mostly in good price range. The best sight of Tsoukalades is Faneromeni Monastery (Ιερά Μονή Παναγίας Φανερωμένης), situated approx. 2 kilometers from the center of the village.

This church belong to the most beautiful and oldest monasteries of Lefkada Island, which is worth a visit. Faneromeni Monastery has a well kept garden with many flowers, a mini zoo, a picturesque bell tower and a church inside. Inside the tranquil courtyard visitors can enter into the Nautical Museum of Lefkada, and into the Religious Museum, which belong the best museums of Lefkada Island.

The nearest beach to the village is situated 3 kilometers from the central areas, and known as Tsoukalades beach, or some maps mention it as Gialou Skala beach. This small cove can be reached through a narrow and winding road from the central areas: the distance to Tsoukalades beach is 3 kilometeres, so it’s worth to know, that a car or a motorcycle is useful. The entire bay is unorganized, the shore is filled by pebbles and rocks, and offer just a few spaces for parking (which is free).

The best attractions near Tsoukalades are the famous west coast beaches, which are quite near.

Pefkoulia beach is located just 3 kilometers away, offer long and wide coast with DECK beach bar. We like this attraction very much, because Pefkoulia has one of easiest access in Lefkada Island, parking is easy, and the blue Ionian Sea is amazing at most of the time.

We must mention the shallow beach of Agios Nikitas approx. 7 kilometers away from Tsoukalades, and of course the breathtaking Mylos beach, which can be reached by hiking or by taxi boats. Agios Nikitas is the most visited village on the west coast, built in a fertile valley, which can be recommended for a sightseeing due its old stonehouses, narrow alleys and traditional restaurants.

One of the best beaches in Lefkada, Kathisma beach lies also near, just approx. 9 kilometers away, where a lot of restaurants, paragliding options and dozens of parasols and sunbeds can be visited.

The area of Tsoukalades is recommended for a holiday primarily for those, who like to stay near some great west coast beaches of Lefkada Island at reasonable prices. The rates of the rooms in Tsoukalades are usually slightly lower here than the coastal resorts, so if you are on lower budget, consider a stay here. This village lacks seaside promenade, but some great settlements, such as Lefkada town or Agios Nikitas, and many amazing beaches can be accessed by car fast from here.
