Gialos beach (Παραλία Γιαλός) is a long and calm area with restaurants on the west coast Lefkada Island, located near Athani village. Due to the most famous beaches of the region, such as Porto Katsiki beach or Egremni beach, Gialos is a slightly less visited place even during summer months.
Boat trips don’t arrive here from the ports of Lefkada, it can be accessed only by cars or motors.

Where to find Gialos beach in Lefkada Island, and how to get there
Gialos beach (Paralia Gialos or Παραλία Γιαλός on local Greek maps) is located 37 kilometers away from Lefkada town, 16 kilometers away from Vasiliki, 36 kilometers away from Nidri. The nearest village to Gialos beach is Athani, situated approx. 4 kilometers away, the route leads from there to the sea. The coast can be reached by cars, daily boat excursions don’t arrive here due to a shallow and rocky seabed.
On the road, which runs on the west coast between Agios Nikitas and Porto Katsiki beach and leads trough Athani, there can be seen traffic signs, indicating where travellers have to leave to main road. Road conditions from Athani to Gialos beach are quite poor and narrow at some places, but in recent years some road sections were renewed.
The road ends in the parking lots, which are mostly free to use even during high season months, including July and August.
Gialos beach infos
Gialos beach is one of the longest beaches on the southern coastline of Lefkada Island, with a length of 3 kilometers. The central parts, situated near the parking lots are well organized, restaurants and bars are waiting for guests. Sunbeds and beach umbrellas for rent can be find here as well, in front of Cactus Kantina and Fresco restaurant. The coast is wide and spacious at many places, there are many places to use own parasols.
At some parts of Gialos beach you may have to use water shoes, because significant areas of the seabed are filled by rocks and larger stones. The Ionian Sea is quite shallow here at most places, shallower than at other beaches nearby, such as at Egremni beach or at Porto Katsiki beach. When arriving here with smaller children, families have to pay attention for the rocks in the seabed. The coast has its own sandy parts as well, but in the sea the stones are definitely more significant.
On the west coast of Lefkada Island Gialos beach is one of the calmest places, which is ideal to relax, and enjoy pleasant sea temperatures. This long coast is much quiet, and less crowded at most of the time than Porto Katsiki or Egremni, which are the stars of this region. Gialos beach is visited primarily by the local tourists, who stay in Vasiliki, Ponti or Athani.
Sea temperatures in June are mostly between 23 – 25 Celsius, in July 24 – 26 Celsius, in August 25 – 27 Celsius, in September 24 – 26 Celsius, depending on actual weather conditions and sea currents.
Daily boat trips and excursions don’t arrive to Gialos beach from Nidri of from Vasiliki, because of shallow seabed. Excursion boats can’t sail near the shore, even smaller boats have to watch extremely carefully either, when navigating here.
Gialos beach have some secluded parts as well, further away from restaurants. These remoted areas are visited by naturists, especially in pre and post seasons. In Lefkada Island there are no official beaches for nudism, but some secluded places, such as at the abandoned parts of Gialos naturists can be recommended for them.
Due to its location, at some days there can be stronger waves. The panoramic views to the extremely blue Ionian Sea are breathtaking on these days, but the waves can be dangerous as well. To enjoy the waves some other places, such as Kathisma beach are slightly better in Lefkada Island, because some other seabeds have much less bigger stones.
