Parking lots were built also here, next to the road, parking for cars and for scooters is free.
The central parts of the bay are situated at the southern side of the port, approx. 250 meters away from there, literally in front of Porto Hotel Lygia.
On maps Ligia beach is usually signed as this small bay near Porto Ligia, but there are some other parts of the coastline, which have swimming and snorkeling features. These other parts belong mostly to local apartments and studios, built near the Ionian Sea, but a lot of accommodations are situated within only 5 – 20 minutes walking distances from the shore.
What to find at Ligia beach, features and infos to know
Lygia beach is one of the east beaches in Lefkada Island, the entire coastline looks different than the western beaches. The central cove near Porto Ligia Hotel, and other parts of the coast are primarily characterized by coarse sand, pebbles and some rocks.
The coast is organized at just a few places, which means in the main bay we can find a few sunbeds for rent, but further away the coast is usually lacks these features. Some seaside apartments and studios in Ligia offer sunbeds for their guests, but this is not common.
The Ionian Sea is usually calm and shallow at most places, with pebbly seabed, providing Ligia beach ideal conditions for swimming, without stronger waves. Visitors of this coast are primarily families with smaller children, and tourists who spend there holiday in local apartments. Due shallow waters Ligia beach is considered as a child friendly beach in Lefkada Island, but water shoes may need for kids due to pebbles. Sandy areas are not typical here, just coarse sand at few places.
Local sea temperatures are pleasant in most summer months due to the calm waters, which means the averages of temperatures are between 23 – 26 Celsius from June to September. Highest sea temperatures of Ligia beach are between 25 – 27 Celsius in July and in August, but we noticed sometimes, there are some periods, when sea temperatures are getting slightly cooler in the area. During these days cooler sea temperatures are influenced by some local sea currents, because the distance between Lefkada Island and the Greek mainland is getting bigger from here.
Due to pebbles and stones of seabed, swimming shoes can be recommended. For adventures near Ligia, it’s worth to visit the southern side of the village, where a small water park is waiting for guests from June to September. The water park is known as Panos Water Sports & Fun Park, and offer funny moments for smaller children.
