The location of Ammoussa beach hides this bay well from the crowds, because this attraction is situated in a tranquil bay on the east coast of Lefkada Island, 20 kilometers away from the capital, 10 kilometers away from Vasiliki and 20 kilometers away from Nidri. To visit Ammoussa beach you have to drive to Marantochori village, a small agricultural settlement between Nidri and Vasiliki, because the route to starts there.
The distance between Marantochori and Ammoussa beach is just 5 kilometers, the road is asphalted until the parking lots of Ammoussa beach. Road conditions of the route are average, because altough this road section is narrow and winding at a few places, driving here is not complicated. The access of this bay is much easier than some beaches of the west coast, such as Kavalikefta beach or Avali beach.
At the end of the road, just before the beach there was built some parking lots for cars and scooters. The parking lot of Amoussa beach can be used for free. The bay can be accessed only by driving here, because boat trips and daily excursions don’t visit from the port of Nidri and Vasiliki, and there are no public buses either.

Despite is hidden location, Ammoussa beach is a fully organized place in Lefkada Island, with parking lots, restaurant and sunbeds for rent. The bay is small sized with a length of 50 meters, surrounded by grey rocks and lush mediterranean vegetation, offering picturesque panoramic views for visitors.
The seabed of Ammoussa beach is filled by white coloured pebbles and some stones, which make most parts of this gem great for snorkeling and diving in Lefkada. The Ionian Sea is crystal clear here, and local marine life is significant – small fishes, squids and other interesting sea creatures live here, so it’s worth to wear a diving mask when we discover this coast.
Due to its location on the calmer east coast, waters are usually calm here, without any significant wave activity. Amousa beach is very well protected from the waves, its two sides work literally as natural breakwaters. The seabed of Ionian Sea is shallow, which makes the bay safe for smaller kids and children for swimming or playing on the shore.
Sea temperatures of Ammoussa beach are pleasant during summer months, with an averages between 24 – 27 Celsius. Waves and nearby sea currents usually don’t influence much local sea temperatures, so the bay supports snorkeling, swimming and other beach activities well. Because of the white pebbles and stones water shoes may needed, and important to know there is no natural shade in the bay.
Behind a few lines of sunbeds a local restaurant is waiting for guests, known as Ammousa beach restaurant. The small restaurant is open primarily from May until the end of September, offering cold refreshments, hot meals, and snacks for visitors. Some parking lots were built in front of the restaurant as well.
From the coastline of Ammoussa beach in the distance we can see the highest mountains of other amazing Ionian Islands, such as Ithaca and Cephalonia (Kefalonia).
