Ponti (Πόντη Αγίου Πέτρου) is the ultimate windsurf spot in Lefkada Island, Greece, near Vasiliki village. The small seaside resort is located on the southern side of the island, approx. 40 kilometers away from the capital. The special local winds of the bay make Ponti famous in Lefkada and also in Greece, where this place is visited by thousands of windsurfers in every year.

The small village also offers rooms for holidays as well, bu you have to know the local accommodations are usually merged with the neighbooring Vasiliki.

Where to find Ponti in Lefkada island, and how to get there

Ponti is located on the southern part of Lefkada Island, approx. 40 kilometers away from the capital and approx. 23 kilometers away from Nidri. The nearest settlement to Ponti is the charming fishing village, Vasiliki, which is situated just 1 kilometer away from there, they are literally neighboors.

The road main road, which runs on the east coast leads through the center of Ponti, so if you arrive from the direction of Nidri or Lefkada town, you can’t miss it. The location of Ponti is quite special: most of the buildings of the village were built next to a long and wide bay.

From Vasiliki to Ponti the distance is a just a short walk, because sidewalks were also built next to the road and behind the sea as well. For parking lots just look into the smaller streets or some empty courtyards, because the main road is not as wide as in other villages, and you can park there only at a few places.

Ponti informations, which you should know

The village of Ponti belong to the smallest places in Lefkada Island, but it is not abandoned at all. On the main street, which is the center, a mini market, restaurants and cocktail bars were built and are open from Spring to Autumn. For larger supermarkets and bakeries you have to drive or walk to Vasiliki, but the basics can be find here.

Most of the local apartments and studios in Ponti were built behind the bay, but on the slopes of the surrounding hills there are also some of them. You can see this area on the photo above, which we shot from Vasiliki.

The best restaurants, which are worth to try due to travellers reviews are To Kyma Restaurant, Pondi Family Restaurant and Maistros Restaurant. These taverns can be reached easily, because they are situated in the village center, literally at the main road. On the beach, which is just a minute walk from the center, coffee bars are waiting for guests also, offering cold drinks and snacks for vacationers.

Ponti doesn’t have an own port, but just take a walk to Vasiliki, where the excursion boats visit the most famous beaches of Lefkada, such as Egremni beach or Porto Katsiki beach.

Ponti is the best windsurf spot in Lefkada

The bay of Ponti got its fame and reputation for its special wind called ‘Eric’. The local wind conditions are special not just in Lefkada Island, but also in Greece: this place is one of the best destinations for windsurf in the country, as good as Prasonisi beach in Rhodes Island.

The winds of the area, which give ideal conditions for surfers arrive usually in the afternoons – in the magic hours, as the local community of the windsurfers say. The strongest winds blow from end of June to the end of August, when many days of the month provide ideal conditions for windsurf.

You can find the windsurfing facilities and services directly on the beach, where you can learn here the basics of windsurf. Surf equipments and accessories, such as boards and suites can be rented in the surf clubs. If you want to learn or rent an equipment, just find at the beach Grand Nefeli Wind Surfing School, Club Vass or Wildwind Holidays, where expert staff teach the surf for beginners.

Due to surfer community Ponti (Pondi) has several apartments and studios where you can stay on a holiday in Lefkada, even if you are not interested so much in surf. Despite Ponti is a bustling place, the area has relaxing atmospheres during the summer months, which is also typical in the region.

Ponti beach

The long and quite shallow bay offer nice options to swim and to sunbathe. Ponti beach is known usually as the place of the windsurfers, but the surfers sail further away from the beach, so they don’t bother those who want just swim. The beach of the village lasts until the half of the bay, where it meets Vasiliki beach.

The best beach near Ponti is known as Agiofili beach, which can be reached quick and easy by catching taxi boats in the port of Vasiliki. The nearest beaches on the west coast are Porto Katsiki beach, Egremni beach and Gialos beach, which are situated approx. 14 – 20 kilometers away from Ponti.

It’s worth to know Ponti beach is one of the most shallow bays in Lefkada Island, so it can be suitable for children as well. At some places there are sandy areas, but you can find mostly coarse sand here.

Ponti apartments and studios for stay

Pondi and Vasiliki are excellent (literally the best) locations for windsurfers for a stay in Lefkada Island. Most of the local accommodations can be reached easily from the bay, because a lot of apartments were built directly next to the main road which connects Ponti to Vasiliki, and some of these are quite near the beach.

The other apartments are located on the hills behind the village, and offer amazing panoramic views to the bay.

The area is great to explore the southern regions of Lefkada Island, where the waterfalls of Syvros, the charming port of Syvota, the hidden gems of Ammousa beach, Afteli beach and so much more can be visited.
